Armed with an abundance of talent and fueled by an unwavering commitment to spreading the Gospel, The Browders are rapidly becoming one of Christian musicâs most acclaimed groups. The family bandâs album, Time Machine, yielded a record-breaking seven #1 hits. The Browders new CD, âAuthenticâ, includes the #1 song, Youâre Not In This Alone and their current single, âWhen God Says Wait.âÂ
Matthew Browder states with a smile. âDad taught us to dream big. We believe if you have a dream, you need to go after it. God has blessed us and I know the best is yet to come.âÂ
Time Machine showcases the talents of the entire Browder family with father Tommy, brothers Matthew and David and Matthewâs lovely wife Sonya each taking a turn on lead vocals. âWe really feel like it is music for the whole family,â says Sonya. âThere is something that every age group can enjoy because itâs music of yesterday and itâs music of today. Thatâs part of the reason we named it Time Machine. Itâs a musical journey.â
The album opens with Matthew taking lead on the worshipful âLift Up His Nameâ and continues with such potent tracks as the foot-stomping anthem âListening for the Shoutâ featuring Tommy on lead vocals and the poignant ballad âHe Took the Nails,â on which Sonya delivers an emotional performance. Whether itâs a high energy up tempo tune like âPick Me Up,â featuring David on lead vocals, or the harmony-laden #1 hit single âHe Is Alive,â the album is filled with songs that are spiritually substantive and musically engaging.Â
The Browdersâ musical journey began in Hiltons, Virginia. âWe have a lot of history where weâre from,â says David. âWe come from the hometown of the original Carter family and we implement that in our concerts. Weâll do like a little acoustic set that takes you back to that front porch style of picking. We canât ever forget our roots.â
Family patriarch Tommy began singing gospel music at age five despite being stricken with polio. âI was about 9 or 10-years-old in a handicap school and my right hand was completely paralyzed from polio,â he recalls. âI was taking guitar lessons and after much prayer and trust in Godâand believing that He would be able to have me playâone day my thumb started working and then my fingers started working. He gave me enough strength in my right hand to be able to play.â
In 1990, Tommy felt God calling him to tour with his family and since then The Browdersâ career has steadily gained momentum. Their 2006 album Be a Light yielded the groupâs first top ten hit âStand Up For Jesus.â Their 2009 album, The Message, produced seven top ten singles, including three No. 1 songsââPraise You In This Valley,â âMessage Of The Cross,â and âLand Of No Goodbyes.â
Voted âBreakthrough Artist of the Yearâ at the Absolutely Gospel Music Awards in 2013, 2014 Dove Award Nominee for âInspirational Song of the Yearâ, and receiving âMusic Video of the Yearâ at the 2016 AGM Awards, the Browders have headlined their own shows and have also opened for The Band Perry, MercyMe, Michael English and others. Yet in talking to the Browders, itâs not the venues theyâve played or the No. 1 singles theyâve earned that dominates the conversation. They are quick to speak excitedly about the number of souls theyâve seen saved at the concerts and conferences where they share the Gospel. âItâs not about our abilities. Itâs about Godâs capability,â says Matthew. âHe can do anything. We just try to be good stewards of the gifts that God has given to us.â
